Valentine's Day can be fun, especially if you're sick of online dating and meeting men in coffee shops. You can actually use February 14th to help you meet the right guy.
This year, the most romantic day of the year just happens to fall on the Saturday before Mardi Gras. Instead of sitting home in front of "Love Actually" with a pint of ice cream, you can put the elements of love and revelry together to work for you by throwing a Mardi Gras party. Follow the instructions below, and you'll meet interesting new people in the process.
1. Tell your friends you're celebrating Mardi Gras in high style and invite them to bring along a friend to ensure there are plenty of new faces to meet. Be sure to invite both men and women.
2. If you live in a small place, ask three people and encourage each one to bring one new face. If you live in a larger place, invite as many as ten friends for a guest count of twenty.
3. Google "easy Mardi Gras recipes" for food ideas. (If you're a slow-cooker fan, a recent search yielded results for those recipes too.)
4. Google "Mardi Gras drink recipes" for alcoholic and non-alcoholic suggestions.
5. When guests ask what they can bring, politely suggest dessert, an appetizer, or tell them, "Whatever you'd like to drink."
6. Keep the preparations light and fun. A stressed hostess is not an approachable hostess. Relax. Be a fun hostess and be approached.
7. Add music and stir!
By throwing a party in this manner, you'll not only meet new people, but you'll establish yourself as a fun, hospitable popular person at the center of the social scene. It's also possible your guests will think of you the next time they plan a fun event, which will allow you to meet even more people. Setting yourself up as a hostess is the quickest way to get out of a rut.
It's indeed possible you'll find love among the new people you meet at your party. But if you don't, keep in mind that each new person you meet is a social universe unto him or herself and may one day introduce you to your perfect man.
If you can't wait until February, consider organizing a football gathering for a Sunday in January. Or, forget excuses altogether and just throw a party, keeping two goals in mind: To meet new people and have a night to remember.
